OUR MISSION
We help communities in the Mississippi Delta by providing housing, education, and job programs that make life better for asset challenged families and young people.
Our History
Quitman County Development Organization, Inc. (QCDO) was founded in 1977 by African American community activists in Marks, Mississippi. These leaders, veterans of the Civil Rights Movement, partnered with Mississippi Action for Community Education (MACE) of Greenville, Mississippi to organize their community. Through a series of community meetings where residents shared their needs and ideas, QCDO emerged as a membership-based organization that gave local people a voice in decisions affecting their lives.
QCDO began as one of six core affiliates within MACE's network, learning and building organizational strength during its early years. By the mid-1980s, QCDO had grown strong enough to operate independently. Since gaining independence, the organization has built an impressive track record in community-based development, serving families and neighborhoods throughout the region for over four decades.
